The Order of Friars Minor Conventual (the Franciscans) and the Parish of St. Anthony of Padua invite you on a mystic two-day pilgrimage in honor of the Assumption of Our Lady. We will celebrate the feast at the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey, Ohio.

What: A pilgrimage by car

Where: Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation, Carey OH 43316 (about 3 hours away)

When: Sunday-Tuesday, August 14-16, 2022

Who: This pilgrimage is open to anybody,
Be sure to reserve your place early!

Cost: Free for the pilgrimage, but we ask you to contribute to the cost of the hotel rooms and we will eat at least one meal in a restaurant. (see below)

Pilgrimage leader: To be announced. Write to pilgrimage@stanthonyangola.com

What will we do:
Friar Bob Showers and the other friars will meet us upon arrival and show us around. We will join the app. 10,000-15,000 pilgrims from all over North America for a spiritual journey and experience that can change your life.
  • Confessions are available all day long.
  • Mass will be celebrated in English, Spanish, Chaldean, Syro-Malabar and Albanian. (See the Mass schedule here.)
  • Hear about the miracles of Carey.
  • See the relics of the saints.
  • Visit the gift shop.
  • Friars are available all day long to bless religious objects.
  • We will participate in devotions at 2:30 with the relic of the true cross.
  • Preacher for the Assumption will be Friar Steven McMichael OFM Conv. Doctor McMichael is a theology professor at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota and a recognized expert in the theology of Christ's resurrection. This led him to a great interest in - and devotion to - the assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. More information on the novena sermons of Friar Steven.
  • The great candlelight procession and festive outdoor Mass for the Vigil of Mary's Assumption begin at 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday. More than 10,000 faithful participate.
  • We will end our pilgrimage with a rosary procession on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.

Where will we stay and what will we eat: DETAILS FOR 2022 COMING SOON!

2019- instead of staying in a trailer or tent in the OLC campgrounds, we have booked hotel rooms at the Holiday Inn Express in Tiffin, a few miles away! It is a less rustic experience but we'll sleep better.

Lunch on Wednesday will be at the friars' cafeteria at the shrine in Carey (pay as you go). Supper will be in a restaurant in Tiffin. Breakfast on Thursday is included in the price of the hotel room. Lunch will again be at the shrine in Carey. We should be back in Angola by supper time on Thursday.

How do I sign up: Reserve your place by writing to
                                       pilgrimage@stanthonyangola.com,
or by calling the parish office at 260-665-2259.

The Order of Friars Minor Conventual (the Franciscans) is part of the religious order founded by St. Francis of Assisi in the 13th century. They have been caretakers of the shrine in Carey for more than 100 years. They look forward to hosting you for this year's pilgrimage experience. Laudato si!
