Becoming Catholic

Do you ever ask yourself…
  • What am I looking for in life?
  • How can I be a better person?
  • How can I come to know God’s love?
  • How can I know the right path God has in store for me?

Or perhaps you ask ...
  • What is the Catholic Church all about?
  • What do Catholics really believe?
  • Might becoming Catholic be something for me?

What are you looking for ...

If you ever ask these questions, or questions like them, look at life as a Catholic. For 2000 years, people have turned to the Church to find answers to the deepest questions of life. Are you interested in finding out more about how to become a Catholic?

First steps on a journey ...

If you want to know more, you are always welcome to come to any Mass, prayer service or any other public event at St. Anthony's.  (See the front page of our website for times and events.) Or you can drop us a line at RCIA@stanthonyangola.com, you can call the office at 260-665-2259, you can send us a tweet at @stanthonyangola (use the hashtag #becomingcatholic) or click here for our Contact Form.

The next steps on the journey ...

New members - whether children or adults - are brought into the Church through the sacraments of baptism, confirmation and communion. These sacraments are often called "the sacraments of initiation" because through these sacred prayers, individuals are initiated into the People of God. Adults prepare for these sacraments through ceremonies and programs called the RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS - or RCIA.

RCIA - what is it and how do I get there?

St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Parish in Angola begins a new RCIA group every autumn. We meet once a week for an evening learning session, and attend Mass together every Sunday. Along the way, we prepare ourselves for our lives as Roman Catholics. Then on Easter Night every year, new members are brought into full membership of the Catholic Church through the holy sacraments.

RCIA Coordinator: Mrs. Elisabeth McHugh   e-mail: RCIA@stanthonyangola.com  telephone: 260-665-2259 (parish office)

You are free to ask questions or to look at the Catholic Church at any time, of course - but as we gather into a group, there needs to be a schedule. Each year, we start our evening meetings in October. We plan to start on Thursday evening, October 16, 2020 at 6:30 p.m. The sessions take place in Classroom 2 of our parish center, 700 W. Maumee St. in Angola.

For more information, you can talk with Elisabeth McHugh (RCIA@stanthonyangola.com, 260-665-2259) or our pastor Father Bob Showers (frbob@stanthonyangola.com, 952-290-6767). Walk-ins also welcome!

Remember, no one has to "sign on the dotted line" to attend our inquiry sessions. This is a time of looking at Catholicism and looking at yourself. This is one step in your journey of faith.
