WHAT: The project called "Phase III: Fulfillment of the Promise" is the completion of the building project our parish started back in 2007. It will last 2 or 3 years:
2017: Remove the 1941 building and finish the facade 2018-2019: Remodel the 1959 church and the parish center It’s time to finish what we started! It’s time to fulfill the promise we made a decade ago. WHY: In 2007, this parish community boldly decided to go into the future with optimism and build the third “Church of St. Anthony” here in Angola. In 2010, we dedicated our beautiful new church – this was Phase I of the project. In 2012, we built a connecting annex between the new church and the parish center – this was Phase II. Now we are ready to fulfill the promise made back then and carry out Phase III. On August 8, 2017, the Diocesan Finance Council approved our request to demolish the original St. Anthony's Church building of 1941. This was for many of us a painful but necessary decision. After receiving multiple estimates, the Parish Finance Council chose Dennis Spidel Custom Homes as the contractor for the demolition. The estimated cost will be $141,533
In 2012, the estimated cost of the entire "final phase" of our building project was ca. $5,000,000. Now, however, we believe that we can complete this phase and fulfill the promise for about $1,000,000 or less. |
WHEN: We will begin a building fund drive for the demolition project on the weekend of September 9 & 10, 2017. Our goal is to raise the entire amount in cash. Once the funds are raised in full, we move forward with the demolition of the 1941 church. Our goal is to complete this part of the project within calendar year 2017.
But wait! We’re not done yet! We still need to fulfill the whole promise! FUTURE PLANS: In the fall of 2017, the parish will dissolve the ad hoc steering committee and appoint a building project committee and fund-raising committee. These groups will be tasked with completing “Phase III” and fulfilling our promise of 2007. The new committees must decide what to do with the old church building of 1959 and the parish center 1986. They will be sure to listen to the input of the parishioners. This part of the project will be done in 2018-2019. Our hope is to hold the costs down to under a million dollars. You will be hearing much more about this in 2018! THANK YOU: Our parish has been greatly blessed. In the course of our 80+ years at this address on Maumee Street, we have grown and grown so that we have twice needed to build a bigger sanctuary in which to celebrate the holy sacraments. God has been good to us, and it is an honor to be able to pray in such a beautiful church building as the one we dedicated in 2010. With your support, we hope to be able to continue growing our parish community and fulfill our promise! Please remember that contributions to St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church are tax deductive to the extent of IRS laws and regulations.
We appreciate both leadership level gifts as well as small gifts to this project as it all will help add up for us to raise the goal of $141,533.33 in 2017, and into the future! |
